Pengamblesan (sinking) di seluruh negara yang berada di atas lemeng yang menahan Indonesia (Lempeng Sunda--pen.) terjadi dengan kecepatan meningkat. Pelaporannya sangat bervariasi. Beberapa negara, seperti Malaysia dan Filipina membolehkan pers memberi tahu rakyat. Sementara yang lainnya, seperti Indonesia melakukan penekanan fakta-fakta hampir sepenuhnya. Pengamblesan baru saja terjadi di Malaysia, di sepanjang pantai barat semenjanjung Malaya dan di tepian timur Kalimantan, sebagaimana berita-berita ini (lihat kumpulan berita paling bawah--pen.) yang mencerminkan status banjir sebagaimana yang diungkapkan oleh pers selama 3 Feb. 2011. Pihak otorita Malaysia menegaskan bahwa pengamblesan di pesisi Sulawesi adalah akibat "abrasi" pantai, namun di semenanjung Malaya, mereka mengakui bahwa banjir disebabkan oleh "kenaikan muka air laut". Kata "pengamblesan" telah menjadi tabu.

Kalau bencananya cukup parah, berita pengamblesan Indonesia diungkapkan, dan dikonfirmasi oleh blog-blog Indonesia. Contohnya, di Pulau Jawa, air naik hampir sampai  ke tingkat pengamblesan 40 feet (sekitar 12 meter).

Feb. 3, 2011, Banjir dan Longsor Landa Bojonegoro (mediaindonesia): Bencana banjir luapan Sungai Bengawan Solo dan tanah longsor terjadi di sejumlah wilayah Kabupaten Bojonegoro, Jatim. Kini, luapan anak Sungai Bengawan Solo ITU menggenangi ratusan hektare (ha) sawah di empat kecamatan.  Kondisi itu membuat warga yang berdiam di bantaran sungai resah. Mereka bersiap mengungsi. Terlebih, pada hari sebelumnya banjir bandang melanda 12 desa di kabupaten itu. Empat Kecamatan yang tergenangan banjir di antaranya Kalitidu, Trucuk, Dander, dan Bojonegoro kota. Dari pantauan, tinggi permukaan air pada pos pemantau di Kelurahan Kedok Wetan, Kecamatan Bojonegoro Kota pada Kamis pukul 13.00 WIB pada posisi plus siaga satu. Tinggi debit air mencapai 13.35 meter dari permukaan laut.

Geologists are now recommending to Gov. Joey Salceda the immediate relocation of close to 2,000 villagers living in he western side of Albay. The study found out that the rocks beneath the barangay (village) have already been fracturing because of the same regional stresses that cause fault movement. These fractures became pathways for water to enter into the rock layers and weaken their structural integrity.

 About thousand kilometres to the south of the capital of Manila were grasped in the city of Jolo five other people, under it two children, by the floods. "This is the first time that I experience a flood of this kind", said mayor Hissin Amin. The water has risen at some places around up to 2.40 metres. Also in the province of Compostella two people have died according to the authorities there in the floods.

Segamat river has broken it's bank and many areas are flooded including Taman Segar, Taman Utama, Kg Jawa, etc. This flood appears to be worse than the one in 2006! The question is why is this happening so quickly, especially with all the flood remediation work the goverment has put in since 2006. The main thing now is for the goverment to organize the rescue operations because this is a major flood.

The flood operations control centre in Kinabatangan will be opened today due to continuous rains in the district. The flood committee had started monitoring several villages that are expected to be hit by flood. They include Kiabau, Gambaron, Bius, Maliau, Bauto and Berayung.

Malaysia experienced one of its wettest by-elections as Tenang, where voters went to the polls yesterday, and Labis, were hit by floods following heavy rain since early morning. Labis, the nearest town to Tenang where the by-election was being held, was badly hit by floods after continuous rain fall over the past six days saw the town submerged in about a metre of water.

The number of flood victims in the 26 relief centres in the three districts in Melaka increased to 2,889 as at 9 pm Monday night compared with 2,714 Monday afternoon. A spokesman of the Melaka state flood operations room said Alor Gajah had the highest number of victims with 1,534 from 344 families seeking shelter at 10 relief centres. In Jasin, 1,306 victims from 321 families were staying at 15 relief centres while 49 victims from eight families were staying at a relief centre in Melaka Tengah.

Flood waters have cut off links to a number of towns in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Malacca and Sabah, in a repeat of the major floods of 2006. More than 46,000 people, mostly in Johor, have been forced to seek shelter in evacuation centres as more rain is expected this week. The worst-hit state was Johor, which saw 42,300 people from Segamat, Muar, Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Ledang evacuated. Another 1,921 people were evacuated in Negeri Sembilan. A KTM statement said that among the affected services were Ekspress Rakyat connecting KL Sentral and Singapore, and Ekspress Sinaran Timur connecting Kuala Lipis and Singapore.

Disaster management officials in the Caraga region in Mindanao have implemented a forced evacuation of nearly 6,000 people in Caraga Region. The Surigao City and Surigao del Norte brought some 4,762 individuals (or about 856 families) to safer grounds in Surigao City and the towns of Mainit, Tubod, Claver and Gigaquit. In the Dinagat Islands also in Caraga Region, some 1,000 individuals from give barangays were also evacuated to safer grounds. In Surigao City, some 354 families from Sitio Pagasa and Sitio Bonotan were evacuated.

 The number of flood victims in Pahang has increased to 2,167 people. Pahang police flood operations room spokesman said Rompin still recorded the highest number of victims at 1,808 people from 236 families in five villages. The increase was due to a rise in sea level which caused the Kesang River to overflow.
